Cyprus District Court issues its decision regarding the first Action for Damages for Infringements of Competition Law

The District Court of Larnaka has recently issued its decision with regard to an action for damages for infringements of Competition Law against the Cyprus Grain Commission, awarding the claimant with damages amounting to over €250.000. 

The case concerned a private damages claim by a private company for damages incurred due to an abuse of dominance by the Cyprus Grain Commission, through a predatory pricing practice.

The said decision constitutes is a critical development for the case law in Cyprus concerning actions for damages for infringements of Competition Law, as it sets out the precedent for future private damages claims.
